Keluang Man”is a name deeply rooted in the hearts of Malaysians who grew up in the late ’90s and early 2000s. Originally aired on TV1 from 1998 to 2005, the animated series created by Kamn Ismail was known for its witty humor, local setting, and a uniquely Malaysian take on the superhero genre.
Created in June 1997, shortly after Usop Sontorian ended, Kamn Ismail envisioned Keluang Man as a “National Hero” — Malaysia’s answer to Western caped crusaders. The series, with its vibrant characters and local humor, gained a cult following, and even spawned a comic book released on 1 June 1999.

The Plot: From Hospital Bahagia Tumpoi to Hero of Justice
Set in the fictional town of Bandar Fiksyen, the story follows Borhan, a psychiatric patient at Hospital Bahagia Tumpoi, who believes he is Keluang Man, a defender of justice and protector of humanity.
Despite his mental health condition, Borhan transforms each night into a masked vigilante — taking on local criminals, oddball villains, and protecting the innocent in his own eccentric but heroic way. Though many question his sanity, his sense of justice is pure.
While comparisons to Batman are often made — especially with the dark costume and vigilante theme — Keluang Man is fundamentally different. Think of it as a Malaysian version of Adam West’s Batman, infused with local flavor, comedic tones, and a heartfelt story.
