PETALING JAYA, Aug 7 – Have a knack for naming? Your creative flair could land you a free day out at Penang Bird Park, Malaysia’s oldest and largest bird sanctuary, as it celebrates its 37th anniversary with a delightful naming contest!

In conjunction with the milestone, the park has launched a fun-filled campaign titled “What’s My Name?”, inviting the public to come up with unique names for its most iconic animal residents.

Whether you’re inclined toward traditional names like Ahmad or Arumugam, or quirky ones like Amadeus or Annabel, your submissions could earn you bragging rights—and two free tickets!


🐦 Who Needs a Name?

Penang Bird Park has a wide variety of bird species, including the Helmeted hornbill, Red-necked francolin, Black-and-red broadbill, Beautiful fruit dove, Asian brown flycatcher, Common goldenback woodpecker, Green broadbill, Black-headed bulbul, and Melanistic mutant pheasant. Additionally, they have recently acquired an African Grey parrot.

The following beloved residents of the park are looking for a name to call their own:

  1. Rhinoceros hornbill – Calm, confident, and a little mysterious.
  2. Sulphur-crested cockatoo – Bold and loud with an infectious personality.
  3. Albino crow – Rare, striking, and intelligent.
  4. A family of four baby emus – Energetic siblings with big curious eyes.
  5. Malay eagle owl – Regal, watchful, and wise.
  6. Cassowary – Powerful and elegant with prehistoric charm.
  7. Twin baby marmosets – Adorably playful and full of mischief.
  8. Estuarine crocodile – A queen in her own right, sharing space with her longtime partner Tyson.

📅 How to Participate

The campaign is split into two exciting phases:

Participants can submit their name suggestions for the animals by referring to their photos and personality descriptions on the Penang Bird Park Instagram page.
📝 Tip: If multiple entries suggest the same name, the earliest submission wins based on the timestamp.

🔹 Phase 2: Voting Time!
📅 Aug 15 – Aug 28
Top name suggestions will be shortlisted and put up for public voting on Instagram Stories.
