The building was completed in June 2006 on a 0.96-acre plot, and it received its Certificate of Fitness (CF) from the Tanjung Malim District Council in August 2009.

Initially known as Surau Al-Hidayah, the prayer hall soon became the heart of the local Muslim community. Due to the increasing number of congregants, the committee applied to the Perak Islamic Religious Council for permission to conduct Friday prayers. The application was approved on 16 January 2009, elevating the surau’s status to a full mosque, then named Masjid Al-Hidayah Proton City.

Later that same year, in conjunction with the Maal Hijrah 1431H celebration, His Royal Highness the Sultan of Perak officially inaugurated the mosque under its present name, Masjid At-Taqwa, on 18 December 2009. The total construction cost was approximately RM2 million.
