Malaysia Strengthens Education Tourism Outreach in India
Tourism Malaysia Chennai participated in the Malaysia Education Promotion Roadshow 2026 organised by REXPO and EMGA, with support from the Consulate General of Malaysia. The multi-city initiative was successfully conducted across Hyderabad, Chennai, and Kochi, further strengthening Malaysia’s engagement with Indian students seeking international higher education opportunities.
The education-focused roadshow brought together 19 leading Malaysian private universities, offering Indian students and parents direct access to information about globally recognised academic programmes, scholarships, student mobility initiatives, and future career pathways in Malaysia.
Malaysia Emerges as a Preferred Education Destination
Malaysia continues to gain popularity among Indian students due to its affordable tuition fees, internationally accredited universities, multicultural environment, and strong industry connections. During the roadshow, university representatives highlighted Malaysia’s growing reputation as one of Asia’s leading higher education hubs.
Students attending the event were able to interact directly with academic institutions, explore study programmes in business, engineering, medicine, hospitality, information technology, and creative industries, as well as learn about scholarship opportunities and campus life in Malaysia.
The initiative also showcased Malaysia’s strategic focus on Education Tourism, which combines academic excellence with cultural exploration and travel experiences.
Networking Session Strengthens Academic Collaboration
The programme concluded with a networking dinner attended by approximately 35 Indian school principals, senior lecturers, education counsellors, and academic representatives. The session encouraged dialogue on student exchange opportunities, academic collaboration, and long-term partnerships between Indian and Malaysian institutions.
During the networking event, Hishamuddin Mustafa, Director of Tourism Malaysia Chennai, highlighted the importance of Education Tourism in supporting Malaysia’s broader tourism and economic goals ahead of Visit Malaysia Year 2026 (VMY2026).
He emphasised that international students contribute not only to Malaysia’s education sector but also to its tourism ecosystem through cultural exchange, family travel, and long-term people-to-people connections.
