TNM Hidden Cafe truly lives up to its name—it’s tucked away behind a vape shop in Brickfields, making it a hidden gem for those who stumble upon it. Conveniently located opposite NU Sentral and close to Little India, the café offers a cosy, laid-back atmosphere that’s perfect for hanging out and enjoying Tamil cuisine.
Food & Quality
The café serves classic South Indian dishes such as dosa, vada, biryani, and chai. While the biryani is decent, it doesn’t quite match the rich flavors of authentic Chennai-style biryani. However, for a Malaysian setting, it holds up well.
Area to Improve
One downside is the extra charge of RM1 for chicken gravy (salna), which feels unnecessary, considering it’s typically included with biryani in many Tamil restaurants.
Service
The service model here could be improved. Customers are expected to place their orders at the counter before sitting down, rather than having staff take their orders at the table. While this might work for a fast-casual setup, a more traditional dine-in experience with table service would enhance the overall experience.
Pricing
TNM Hidden Cafe isn’t the most budget-friendly Tamil eatery, especially when compared to other South Indian restaurants in the Brickfield area (Old and New). However, the price of the Biryani is still the cheapest one in the KL. The slightly higher prices on other items are likely due to its location. While some might find the pricing justified, others may feel it could be more reasonable.
