About

Located about 25 kilometers west of Sandakan in Sabah, Malaysia, the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre was established in 1964 as the first official orangutan rehabilitation project. The center rescues orphaned baby orangutans from logging sites, plantations, illegal hunting, or those kept as pets, and trains them to survive in the wild before releasing them into the Kabili-Sepilok Forest Reserve, which spans 4,294 hectares of virgin rainforest.
