Major Traffic Diversions in Kuala Lumpur Ahead of ASEAN Summit 2025 and PETRONAS Grand Prix
Kuala Lumpur, 24 October 2025 – Commuters in Kuala Lumpur are advised to plan their journeys carefully as several major roads and highways will undergo intermittent closures and traffic diversions in conjunction with the upcoming ASEAN Summit 2025 and the PETRONAS Grand Prix of Malaysia 2025.
According to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), rehearsals and dry runs for motorcade movements will take place from 17 to 25 October, simulating routes from KLIA and Subang Airport to hotels and the Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC). During the peak days of 26 to 28 October, heavy vehicles will be restricted from entering the city centre.

The following city streets will see intermittent closures:
- Jalan Ampang
- Jalan Tun Razak
- Jalan Sultan Ismail
- Jalan Bukit Bintang
- Jalan Parliament
- Jalan Kuching
- Jalan Perak
Affected Highways and Expressways
Motorists should expect diversions and possible delays on key highways connecting to the city, including:
- KLIA Expressway
- ELITE Highway (KLIA – Putrajaya)
- New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE) (Subang – Jalan Duta)
- Guthrie Corridor Expressway
- PLUS Highway (Sungai Buloh – Jalan Duta)
- Maju Expressway (MEX)
- KL–Seremban Expressway (Sungai Besi – City Centre)
Traffic Advisory for Commuters
The PDRM has issued several advisories for drivers:
- Avoid the affected routes where possible.
- Use alternative roads to minimize congestion and delays.
- Plan journeys well in advance and allow extra time.
- Stay updated daily as diversion schedules may shift.
Special Note for 26 October
With the ASEAN Summit and the PETRONAS Grand Prix overlapping, extra diversions are expected around Sepang and connecting highways. Alternate routes via Bandar Serenia, Nilai, and Bandar Ainsdale toll plazas are recommended for those heading to the Sepang International Circuit (SIC).
Authorities have urged motorists and residents to remain patient and cooperate with traffic personnel during this period to ensure smooth movement for official delegations and event participants.
