PETALING JAYA: Firefly will relocate its jet aircraft operations from Subang Airport to KLIA Terminal 1 starting 19 August to enhance network efficiency and scalability.

However, the low-cost airline’s turboprop services will remain at Subang to maintain regional connectivity.

Parent company Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) said the relocation is part of its long-term optimisation plan and will allow Firefly to better leverage the group’s shared services in engineering, ground handling, and catering.

“Subang Airport will continue to play an important role in Firefly’s network through its turboprop operations, which provide vital connections across key domestic and regional routes.

“This decision further strengthens our commitment to positioning KLIA Terminal 1 as a premier aviation hub, while continuing to offer accessible air travel options nationwide,” said Group Managing Director Izham Ismail in a statement today.

Firefly will launch its first jet flight from KLIA to Tawau on 19 August, followed by routes to Kuching and Kota Kinabalu on 21 August, Singapore on 22 August, Johor Bahru on 23 August, Kota Bharu and Kuala Terengganu on 30 August, and Sibu on 3 September.

The airline will also increase the frequency of KLIA–Penang flights from twice weekly to six times weekly starting 23 August. Plans are underway to reach 10 weekly flights by November.

All routes will be operated using Firefly’s Boeing 737-800 aircraft, with a free checked baggage allowance of 10kg, 7kg cabin baggage allowance, and complimentary in-flight meals and drinks.

In conjunction with the transition, Firefly is offering all-in one-way promotional fares starting from RM58 for selected destinations.
