Chennai, India — Malaysia is turning up the spotlight on its culture, cuisine, and creativity as part of the grand build-up to Visit Malaysia Year (VMY) 2026. The Consulate General of Malaysia in Chennai, in collaboration with Tourism Malaysia Chennai, hosted an engaging two-day showcase on 8th and 9th November 2025 at Express Avenue Mall, offering visitors a vibrant preview of what’s in store when Malaysia opens its arms to the world in 2026.

To inspire travelers and strengthen Malaysia–India tourism relations, positioning Malaysia as a premier destination for culture, cuisine, and adventure ahead of Visit Malaysia Year 2026.

Themed “Experience the Magic of Malaysia,” the event served as a dynamic celebration of the nation’s diverse cultural heritage, warm hospitality, and exceptional travel experiences — uniting tradition with modern tourism appeal.

Visitors were treated to a multisensory journey through Malaysia’s living traditions. From captivating cultural performances and authentic Malaysian cuisine to live music and family activities, the showcase brought Malaysia’s essence alive in the heart of Chennai.

Adding flavour to the festivities was the Malaysia Food & Cultural Festival, held concurrently at The Black Kitchen, Somerset Greenways, from 7th to 9th November 2025. Guests indulged in iconic dishes such as Nasi Lemak, Satay, and Laksa, complemented by Malaysian sweets and beverages, underscoring the country’s reputation as a global culinary crossroads.


Tourism Meets Innovation

The event also highlighted Malaysia’s renewed tourism strategy under the Malaysia MADANI initiative, emphasizing sustainability, inclusivity, and community-driven tourism. Visitors explored exclusive travel promotions, special packages, and collaborations with AirAsia, further strengthening Malaysia’s positioning as a preferred travel destination for Indian tourists.

A highlight of the event was the “Lucky Draw”, offering a grand prize worth 1 million INR, including a flight ticket, hotel stay, and travel package to Malaysia — an exciting incentive that perfectly captured the spirit of “Truly Asia.”

The Chennai showcase reinforces Malaysia’s deep cultural and tourism linkages with India, one of its fastest-growing visitor markets. As part of VMY 2026, Malaysia aims to welcome millions of global visitors, showcasing its 13 states and 3 Federal Territories — from the heritage streets of Penang and Melaka to the natural splendor of Sabah, Sarawak, and Pahang.
