AirAsia X Wins Best International Airline of the Year at the Australian Aviation Awards 2025

Sydney, 18 August 2025 – AirAsia X (AAX) has been named Best International Airline of the Year at the Australian Aviation Awards 2025 for the second consecutive year, reaffirming its strong position as a leading international low-cost carrier in the Australian market.
The award, presented at a gala ceremony in Sydney on Friday, recognises AAX’s excellence in delivering affordable, reliable, and accessible international travel, while strengthening its presence across Australia and beyond.
Boosting Services to Australia
As part of its commitment to Australian travellers, AAX will increase services during the peak holiday season from December 2025 to January 2026. The airline will add three additional weekly flights from Kuala Lumpur to both Sydney and Melbourne, bringing each route to 14 weekly flights – its highest-ever frequency. This will see AAX operate double daily services to both cities, offering greater convenience and choice for travellers.
These enhanced services also improve regional connectivity via AAX’s Fly-Thru hub in Kuala Lumpur, linking Australians to more than 130 destinations across Asia, the Middle East, and Central Asia, including Tokyo, Seoul, New Delhi, Beijing, Almaty, Tashkent, and Istanbul.
Complementing AAX’s network, three other AirAsia airlines also connect Australia directly through Darwin, Adelaide, and Perth, strengthening the Group’s footprint and commitment to providing low-cost, high-value travel across the country.
Leadership Remarks
Benyamin Ismail, CEO of AirAsia X, said:
“We are incredibly proud to receive this award for the second year running. Australia is where our story began, and it remains one of our most important markets. In the last decade, we’ve flown more than 10 million guests between Australia and Malaysia – the majority being Australian travellers – a true reflection of the strong support for our brand.
This recognition further fuels our commitment to grow in Australia and continue delivering unbeatable value and service. We are here for the long haul, and we thank our Australian guests for their loyalty and the judges for their trust.”
Adam Thorn, Editor of Australian Aviation, added:
“AirAsia X continues to set the benchmark for international low-cost medium-haul travel. The judges were impressed by the airline’s passenger growth, strategic route expansion, and focus on innovation and sustainability. This back-to-back win highlights AirAsia X’s leadership and its role in making international travel more accessible for Australians.”
