Advisory for Indian Nationals
Advisory for Indian Nationals Traveling to Malaysia from High Commission of India: Avoid Entry Denial with These Key Tips.
Planning a trip to Malaysia? Indian travelers must meet key entry requirements to avoid denial at immigration. Learn how to ensure a hassle-free journey with our essential travel tips.
With the resumption of regular international air travel to Malaysia, Indian travelers must take extra precautions to ensure smooth entry into the country. Several Indian nationals have faced Not to Land (NTL) orders issued by Malaysian immigration authorities at international airports, particularly Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), resulting in denied entry and repatriation.
Common Reasons for Entry Denial (NTL)
Indian travelers are advised to be aware of the following reasons that can lead to an NTL order:
- Insufficient Funds: Travelers must carry enough money to support their stay in Malaysia. Authorities may ask for proof of financial means.
- Lack of Verifiable Proof of Accommodation: A confirmed hotel booking or a letter from a host in Malaysia is required.
- No Genuine Return Air Ticket: Travelers must have a valid return or onward journey ticket to prove they do not intend to overstay.
- Other Entry Requirements: Any discrepancies in documents or purpose of visit may also lead to denial of entry.
What Happens If You Receive an NTL Order?
If denied entry, Indian travelers must remain inside KLIA until the airline that flew them to Malaysia arranges for their return flight. This situation can lead to significant distress and inconvenience.
How to Ensure Hassle-Free Entry into Malaysia
To avoid unnecessary trouble, follow these essential guidelines before traveling to Malaysia:
- Carry Sufficient Funds: Ensure you have adequate financial proof, such as bank statements or cash, to support your stay.
- Book Accommodation in Advance: Keep a copy of a confirmed hotel booking or an invitation letter from your host.
- Have a Valid Return Ticket: Make sure your return or onward ticket is legitimate and verifiable.
- Comply with All Immigration Rules: Stay updated with the latest Malaysian entry regulations to prevent any issues at the airport.
Advisory for Roaming in Malaysia
All Indian tourists are therefore advised the following:
a) Do not carry your passport in your handbag or pocket. Carry a photocopy instead, along with your Hotel key card as additional proof of your legitimate presence in Malaysia.
b) Do not carry any valuables in your handbag.
c) Carry only as much cash as you require.
d) Do not readily show your identification papers or open your handbag for anyone claiming to be a policeman. Should you be stopped, insist on going to the nearest police station instead where any such check, if required, can take place.
e) Make your way to the police station independently and NOT in the vehicle of the people who have stopped you.
f) Should you, nevertheless, become a victim of such an incident, please inform the High Commission by email at hc.kl@mea.gov.in
